I just bought this Canon PowerShot camera sd1300is few days ago to serve as a backup camera for me while I send my Canon SD870IS for service as well as being something I can use my daughter as she gets more involved in making your own photos .
So far, this seems a pretty good camera and there are many features that were already accustomed to using in my new Canon, but some are not so easy to spot as they are in the S5. This is where reading the user manual detailed 148-page will help. Unfortunately, despite reading many positive comments about the camera before anyone buys it, I never noticed mention the fact that Canon no longer provides hard copy of user manual 148-page in the box.
It’s great to be provided on a CD and is easily uploaded to your computer, especially when you have lost your copy and need to find something, but it is not very convenient for when a new owner and are trying to learn to use the Canon PowerShot sd1300is or have access to your computer and need to know how to do something.
Definitely, I want a printed copy of the manual, so now I have to decide if I’m going to print it or buy a copy of the manual for anyone online who sells camera manuals. This is an unexpected expense and unexpected delay in getting quickly to harness the capabilities of the Canon PowerShot sd1300is.
It has only been 2 1 / 2 years since I bought my last Canon camera, and came with a printed manual, so it was not aware of this obvious step to reduce costs has brought with Canon products. I’m still glad that I have the camera, but not value of having to get my own copy of the printed manual.
I would have preferred to pay a little more for the camera to have the manual in the box there. FYI … If you lose the CD that Canon is manual and no longer have it on your computer, you can download the manual from the Canon website and can be read online just fine, but if you must print from a Download is from the Canon Web site will be printed with the word ‘COPY’ in a medium gray color on every page. However you can read the medium gray “Copy”
My overall rating of the Canon PowerShot sd1300is is very good and I am very happy with this little camera

If the reasons above don’t help you make up your mind, think about Steve Wozniak’s recent comments about the iPad: “Everyone wishes things to be simpler, & along comes this straightforward thing.” No viruses. No compatibity issues. No wondering why your iPad is so slow (Apple vets all program to make sure this doesn’t happen). No open to doubt upgrades. No cryptic errors. All these things were things that took the enjoyment out of computing for plenty of people.
The battery is consistently lasting all day, 12 hours, without a recharge. But, its important to note that MANY USB ports won’t charge an iPad. None of mine will. Also, my cheap iPhone automobile charger won’t charge my iPad. There has been discussion about this lately, apparently the charger or USB port has to actually provide the correct rated power. Most don’t provide power. But the battery lasts all day for me so this is not a negative.
The iPad is such a simple thing. & thats why the average person will love it & prefer to make use of it in lieu of a computer.
I’ll upgrade this to four stars if/when: More powerful iPad apps come out

Garmin nuvi 1350LMT
Overall, I am satisfied with Garmin nuvi 1350LMT but I do have a couple of minor complaints.
To start with, I do recommend that owners/potential buyers visit the Garmin web-site to read through all of the product information & to review the FAQs. Some folks have made an issue of Garmin not including the USB cable with the device but this did not matter to me. The necessary cable is a standard type “A” to mini “B” USB cable. Lots of other devices use this same cable & I already own a couple of them. (I also heard that in the event you contact Garmin customer support, they may send you a cable at no charge.) Other reasons to visit the Garmin site: to register the product, to download the full PDF manual & to put in the “my Garmin Agent Plugin” for web updates.
Next, my quibbles:
When Garmin 1350LMT is plugged in to a charging device (PC or vehicle), there is no way to select when the unit is fully charged. This is inconvenient. To view the charge level, you require to unplug the device & turn it on. Only then are you able to see the battery level. According to the Garmin FAQs, charge time is about two hours using the vehicle cable & 8 hours using the PC cable.
of the features of the 1350 is the speed limit display. However, I find this to be of limited value. The speed display is often four to ten mph high compared with the actual posted speeds on the roads being travelled. As a result, this throws off the estimated location arrival time.
Finally, why I am impressed:
When driving with Garmin 1350LMT, I seldom had any doubt where I was at any given time & I seldom had any doubt what my next maneuver would be (& is not this the bottom line of any GPS?). The voice commands have lots of volume, are simple to understand & they also give you adequate lead time for upcoming turns. The commands will also repeat but the voice is not annoying. Several times, I deliberately missed a turn to check how the 1350 would reply. It quickly calculated a revised route based on my current location.
I also found the screen to be clear & straightforward to see while driving (in bright sun, shade & at night).
The full manual states that a PDA type stylus can be used for the touch screen. I found this to be convenient (I am actually using a stylus from a Nintendo DS.) While you can definitely use your finger on the screen, this will leave fingerprints & smudges on the screen.
Other notes:
I have Garmin nuvi 1350LMT sitting on my dash with the Garmin “Portable Friction Mount” – highly recommended.
My 1350 came with a free case – the Caselogic MGPS-2. This case adequately protects the 1350 when it is not being used. Overall, this has been a great purchase for my business travels & I would rate the unit as as well as a half stars.
